History Jembatan Ampera

The construction of Jembatan Ampera began in 1962 and was completed in 1965. The bridge was designed by Ir. Sutami, a famous Indonesian architect. The name “Ampera” is an acronym of Amanat Penderitaan Rakyat, which means “the mandate of people’s suffering”. This name was given to commemorate the struggle of the people of Palembang against the Dutch colonialism.


Jembatan Ampera has a unique and beautiful design. The bridge is 1,177 meters long and 22 meters wide, with a height of 63 meters above the water level. Has seven pillars, each representing the seven days of the week. The bridge is also equipped with 68 lamp posts, which make it look more beautiful at night.
